Department Welcomes Dr. Shaun P. Setty as Clinical Assistant Professor

The Stanford Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is pleased to welcome Shaun P. Setty, MD, as its newest Clinical Assistant Professor. Dr. Setty serves as the Surgical Director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, Director of Global Cardiac Care, and a member of the pediatric cardiac surgery team at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.

Dr. Setty is triple-board-certified in surgery, thoracic surgery, and congenital heart surgery. He has extensive experience in all aspects of pediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgery, including neonatal and transplant surgery.

He completed his general surgery residency at Oregon Health Sciences University and spent an infolded year during his training at Green Lane Hospital in New Zealand as a research and pediatric/adult cardiac surgery fellow. He then completed three years of cardiothoracic surgery training at the University of Minnesota/Lillehei Heart Institute. He went on to complete a congenital heart surgery fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

His current research focuses on cardiac surgery outcomes in patients with genetic syndromes, the impact of social determinants of health on cardiac surgery outcomes, the use of big data in international cardiac surgery humanitarian centers, and the epigenetic underpinnings of congenital heart disease.

Dr. Setty began his role at Packard Children’s Hospital in November 2024.
