We are proud to announce that John W. MacArthur, MD, Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, has been honored with the 2024 Stanford Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) Recognition Award for Faculty. This prestigious award recognizes faculty members who continuously strive to improve the Institute’s culture and community.

Dr. MacArthur is celebrated for his sustained efforts to support and mentor trainees from underrepresented backgrounds across all career stages, fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect. Through his dedication, he has made exceptional contributions to the CVI community by promoting an environment where diversity, belonging, and mutual respect thrive.

The CVI Recognition Award acknowledges faculty whose work increases or celebrates the diversity of CVI members, contributes to fair and just practices, and ensures that all members can succeed and flourish. Each year, two awards of $3,000 each are presented to CVI-affiliated faculty who exemplify these values. Dr. MacArthur is a CVI member.

Congratulations to Dr. MacArthur on this well-deserved recognition of his remarkable commitment to mentorship, equity, and community at CVI and the Stanford Cardiothoracic Surgery Department.
