Dr. Leah Backhus named 2022-23 ELAM Executive Leadership in Health Care Fellow

Leah Backhus, MD, MPH, FACS, Associate Professor in the Stanford Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, has been selected as a member of the 28th cohort of the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM)® Program for Women at Drexel University College of Medicine for its new program, Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH).

"I am grateful to be accepted into 2022-2023 class of ELAM fellows and to represent Stanford in this prestigious program," Backus said. "I am really excited about it and look forward to using it as a springboard into more leadership opportunities at Stanford Medicine."

This year-long fellowship is dedicated to developing the professional and personal skills required to lead and manage in today's complex health care environment, with special attention to the unique challenges facing women in leadership positions. The ELH program is designed for senior-level women leaders interested in advancing executive positions within hospitals and healthcare systems.

The ELAM community is made up of more than 1,200 alumnae and serves in executive leadership positions at 295 academic health centers around the world. Learn more.
