Dr. Naoyuki Kimura Selected for 2010 Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery congratulates Dr. Naoyuki Kimura, a postdoctoral research fellow in the Cardiothoracic Transplantation Lab, on being selected for the 2010 Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellowship.

The Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellowship at the School of Medicine is a longstanding program in support of postdoctoral research. The purpose of these fellowships is to encourage and support young investigators for the first one or two years of postdoctoral research training. Dean's postdoctoral fellowships are awarded to Stanford scholars with an appointment in the School of Medicine and who work in labs in the School of Medicine or Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The fellowships are made possible through generous gifts to the school. Dr. Kimura’s award will be made from the Niezer Fund.

This award, beginning January 1, 2010 for twelve months ending December 31, 2010, provides a total of $20,000 in stipend support to Dr. Kimura’s postdoctoral research, entitled “Role of Interleukin 17 (IL-17) in myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury: A novel approach to cardiac protection.”

“I am delighted to be able to receive this fellowship and am most grateful to Dr. Robert Robbins and Dr. Michael Fischbein [Kimura's faculty mentor] for all their help and support,” Dr. Kimura said regarding the award.
