Menopause & Healthy Aging

Our Mission: To provide superb clinical care and visionary leadership in education, research, and advocacy in menopause and healthy aging so that every patient is empowered to live with strength, health, and vitality as they age.

The program is housed within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and connects Stanford specialists in many fields, including bone, brain, breast, cancer survivorship, heart, lifestyle medicine, mental health, nutritionprimary care, sexual health, sleep, urology/urogynecology, and weight management, to provide comprehensive, world-class care for patients in perimenopause and beyond. Our goal is to improve midlife and aging care for people worldwide—and right here at home!

A key focus of the program is the care of those experiencing menopause. For too long, menopause has been unrecognized and untreated. We are here to change that! From hot flashes and night sweats to mood and sleep disturbances, as well as sexual health concerns, we are here to help you manage your menopausal transition and thrive through every season of life.

Our director, Karen E. Adams M.D., is a clinical professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford Univeristy.  She is double-board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Lifestyle Medicine, a Menopause Society-certified Menopause Practitioner.  She is an award-winning educator and has given hundreds of lectures on midlife health nationally and internationally to both academic, clinical, and general public audiences, including a 2020 TEDx talk entitled “Sleep, Sex, and Menopausal Zest.”
