UMass Chan Medical Scribe Fellowship

The UMass Chan Medical School, Medical Scribe Fellowship is a gap year opportunity for applicants to future graduate level health professions programs who are from racial or ethnic groups underrepresented in medicine, come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and/or are first generation college graduates.  The Fellowship consists of two parts: scribing in a family medicine office with preceptors experienced with health professions training and working with scribes and an academic enrichment series. The academic enrichment sessions are offered by UMass Chan faculty and include developing organization and study skills, reflection and narrative medicine, case presentation, understanding social determinants of health, using patient-centered language in documentation, addressing bias and promoting equity, and supporting wellness and resilience.  Practice sessions for medical school interviewing and coaching for MCAT testing is also provided.  Scribes are also involved in community health activities with current medical and advanced practice nursing students.
