Mission Statement

Our goal is to create a medical community that is reflective of the community and the world that we serve. We believe that we can best achieve this goal by addressing systems of privilege including those based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and physical ability. Representation matters, period. Our mission and values align with the goals of Stanford Medicine.

An opportunity for students, trainees, faculty and staff to explore current topics that impact Stanford Medicine's mission areas including lectures on diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.
McGann Lecture Series

A lecture series that features seminars on the intersection of women, sexual and gender minorities, and health.
On-Demand Series x OFDD

The Office of Faculty Development and Diversity (OFDD) offers individualized mentorship, team-building, bias, and inclusion seminars to departments and groups across Stanford Medicine upon request.
Pfeiffer Visiting Scholar Lecture Series

A quarterly lecture series in which distinguished minority faculty members and scholars from across the country deliver academic presentations on topics relating to minority health.
Unconscious Bias in Medicine CME Course

This CME activity provides education on unconscious bias in the academic medicine workplace.

Diversity Activity Groups

Psychiatry Residency Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council

Through the Psychiatry Residency Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council, residents are heavily involved in both existing program-specific and Stanford-wide diversity initiatives, and are also encouraged to pursue new endeavors.
Stanford Medicine Abilities Coalition (SMAC)

The Stanford Medicine Abilities Coalition (SMAC) fosters and advocates for the equal treatment and well-being of all students, trainees, faculty and staff at Stanford Medicine, regardless of their physical or cognitive differences.
Anesthesia Diversity Council

The goal of the Anesthesiology Diversity Council is to create a functional unit that will identify and cultivate the skills necessary to foster diversity, provide mentorship, create scholarly opportunities and prepare Stanford's anesthesiologists to address the health needs of a diverse population.
Annual Diversity & Inclusion Forum

The Annual Diversity & Inclusion Form is an enriching opportunity to learn about tools and strategies to enable participants to become effective change agents for diversity and inclusion in medical education.
Women in Internal Medicine Residency Group

The Women in Internal Medicine Residency Group offers a safe and supportive environment to discuss issues related to gender in medical training, as well as dedicated mentorship and practical workshops for career development.
OUTlist

The +OUTlist is a resource supporting Stanford Medicine LGBTQ+ individuals in community-building, mentorship, and visibility.
GME Women in Medicine Leadership Council

GME Women in Medicine Leadership Council (WIM) provides community-based events, skill-building events and resources.
Stanford Medicine LGBTQ+ Forum

The Forum features LGBTQ+ members of the Stanford Medicine community, as well as networking opportunities and opportunities for allies to show support.

The Medicine Diversity Committee is a group of Internal Medicine residents and medicine sup specialty fellows committed to diversity.
ALLYlist

Allies within Stanford Medicine are essential in sponsoring LGBTQ+ visibility and acceptance, and are vital components of an increasingly inclusive medical community.
Stanford Medicine Diversity Cabinet

The Diversity Cabinet coordinates and integrates program and communication strategies across Stanford Medicine to leverage diversity, equity, and inclusion partnerships.
Stanford Medicine Diversity Cabinet LGBTQ+ Subcommittee

The subcommittee meets to discuss ongoing Stanford Medicine Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) efforts, such as medical education curriculum, healthcare for the LGBTQ+ community, and seminars, trainings, and workshops representing the latest research on the LGBTQ+ community.
Surgery Diversity Committee

It is the Surgery Diversity Committee's goal to create an environment that fosters belonging, respect, and value for all.

Dermatology Diversity Committee

Radiology Diversity Initiative

The Stanford Radiology Diversity Initiative aims to democratize medicine by assembling and maintaining a critical mass of diverse faculty with far-reaching backgrounds, experiences, and ideas.
Antiracism Book Club

This is a media-based discussion group geared toward Stanford Health affiliates, students, staff, and faculty. The group meets once a month to explore issues relevant to racism in medicine through the written word and videos.
Pediatrics Diversity Committee

The Pediatrics residency program is committed to informing, recruiting, and supporting prospective candidates who identify as underrepresented minorities based on factors such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

Fellowships and Scholarships Awards

Mary Duke Biddle Scholars Program

The Mary Duke Biddle Scholars program provides funds to encourage the global health interests of trainees in pediatrics by sending them overseas to provide clinical care to children most in need.
Academy Innovation Grants Program

The Stanford Medicine Teaching and Mentoring Academy (TMA) promotes excellence in teaching and mentoring, including in diversity and inclusion, by developing, supporting, and recognizing dedicated educators to ensure world-class training for the next generation of physicians, researchers, and educators.
Award for Excellence in Promotion of Diversity and Societal Citizenship (MD Program)

The Award for Excellence in Promotion of Diversity and Societal Citizenship (MD Program) honors medical students who have made outstanding contributions to diversity and equitable societal contributions.

The Cardinal Free Clinics were created to fill a void in the health care safety net that is met by very few other providers, and represents a new and innovative model for providing free health care to the underserved.

WHSDM Center

The Stanford Women's Health & Sex Differences in Medicine (WHSDM) Center acknowledges the wisdom of conducting innovative, multi-disciplinary research on women’s health and sex differences in biology and medicine.

Professional Development and Leadership

Navigating Medicine

This program is to connect medical students with residents through specialty centered socials in order for organic mentoring relationships to grow. While open to all medical students, this program has a special focus on those students who are underrepresented in medicine.
Leadership Education in Advancing Diversity Program

The Leadership Education in Advancing Diversity program is a 10-month longitudinal program that provides residents and fellows with leadership training and mentorship in creating scholarly works around diversity and inclusion topics.
1st Generation Mentorship Program

The 1st Generation Mentorship Program's goal is to provide first-generation students with broadened academic and professional networking opportunities and advocacy through continued mentorship.

Recruitment

We will be hosting two virtual recruitment receptions this interview season for residency and fellowship applicants can meet each other as well as engage with our current community of diverse trainees and faculty from across specialties. These events will take place from 5:30PM-6:30PM PST on December 2, 2020 and January 12, 2021. We will also host a Second-Look event the first week of February 2021 (time and date TBD).

Navigating Medicine

This program is to connect medical students with residents through specialty centered socials in order for organic mentoring relationships to grow.

This is open to all medical students, but has a special focus on those students who are underrepresented in medicine.

These networking events will feature 3 specialties per event, and you will have the opportunity to rotate between specialties to meet residents and ask questions.

Our hope is that you meet residents you resonate with, and reach out to them after the event to continue your conversation and establish a mentee - mentor relationship.
