The Non-CME Post Graduate Medical Events Sponsorships Policy  is intended to protect the integrity of our education and training programs and the reputation of Stanford Medicine and its personnel. The following guidelines and policies make use of the Stanford Medicine Industry Interactions Policy (SMIIP).

This policy applies to all post-graduate medical education events for healthcare professionals whether or not the event is awarding CE credits or not and fall under the oversight of the Associate Dean of Post-graduate Medical Education and the Stanford CME office.

GME Events fall under the oversight of the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education. Gifts to Stanford Medicine may be processed and accepted only through Development, either MCD or LPFCH, as applicable.

   GUIDING PRINCIPLES

This policy is intended to protect the integrity of our education and training programs and the reputation of Stanford Medicine and its personnel. The following guidelines and policies use the Stanford Medicine Industry Interactions Policy (SMIIP)

Industry is subject to the following conditions:

  • Education Focus: Industry support is used for the purpose of education.
  • Curriculum Control: Industry may not influence Medical Education curriculum or the conference agenda in any way. Stanford Medicine must be the party responsible for identifying the needs, determining the educational objectives, selecting and presenting the content, selecting the individuals and organizations that control the content, and selecting educational methods and final evaluation of the Event. 
  • Bias: Medical Education and conference agenda must be evidence-based and free of industry bias.
  • Timing: Faculty shall seek and receive approval prior to the activity and prior to any solicitation.

 

Relevant University Policies

   DEFINITIONS

"Industry" includes any for-profit entity, including, but not limited to, pharmaceutical, medical device, research equipment, technology, and data service providers.

"Sponsors" are entities that provide financial or resource-based support to an event while gaining visibility and association with the event's themes or audience without direct promotional activities.
