Stanford CME CPD Research Scholarship Opportunity
The Stanford Center for Continuing Medical Education (Stanford CME) is thrilled to announce a new scholarship opportunity through the SACME CPD Research Scholarship Program. The program is designed to enhance research capabilities and foster scholarly activity in the field of continuing professional development (CPD).
The Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing scholarship, innovation, and professional development in continuing education for health professionals. SACME fosters research, evidence-based practices, and collaboration to enhance clinician performance, patient care, and public health. You can learn more about SACME at sacme.org.
How the Program Works
The CPD Scholarship Program will kick off at the 2025 SACME Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Following the launch, participants will engage in monthly online sessions, culminating at the 2026 SACME Annual Meeting, which will also offer hybrid options to participate.

About the Sponsorship Opportunity
As part of our commitment to advancing continuing medical education, Stanford CME will sponsor 1 – 3 current Stanford Medicine faculty members interested in conducting CME/CPD research in collaboration with our office.
What the Sponsorship Includes
- $4,000 Honorarium (subject to department approval)
- $2,000 paid upfront, $2,000 paid post-SACME 2026, and article submission
- Waiver of CME Certification Fees
- $11,000 Research Grant to support your project, which may be applied to:
- Allowable project costs
- Registration and travel for the SACME 2025 Meeting in Washington, DC
- Registration and travel for the SACME 2026 Meeting in Lexington, KY
Note: Stanford CME will cover a maximum of $15,000 in expenses per project. Additional expenses, if any, would need to be covered by the other funding sources available to the faculty member.
Eligibility and Expectations
The current Stanford faculty member must be interested in conducting CME/CPD research in collaboration with the Stanford CME office AND the SACME program, which includes coaching and mentoring.
The research should focus on a CME/CPD activity/project that enhances healthcare education or improves patient care outcomes.
Selected scholars will be expected to collaborate closely with the Stanford CME team throughout the research process and present their findings at the 2026 SACME Annual Meeting. Attending SACME 2025 is encouraged but not required.
There is an expectation that a submission for publication will be made to a CME/CPD-related peer-reviewed publication such as the Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions, Medical Education, or Journal of CME. Any peer-reviewed journal with a scope that includes CME/CPD is acceptable.
