Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Optimally counsel, evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with the following spine conditions: 

o   Osteoporosis

o   Low back and chronic pain

o   Sports related spine injuries

o   Adult spinal deformities

o   Cervical myelopathy

o   Cervical radiculopathy

o    Lumbar stenosis

o   Spinal metastatic disease

  • Evaluate the evidence-based treatment options for spinal conditions review the indications and counterindications (e.g. radiation therapy, vertebroplasty, surgery, etc.)  and develop a treatment plan. 
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging for spinal conditions.
  • Develop appropriate pain management strategies for patients with spine-related pain.
  • Determine appropriate patients to refer to spine specialists.
  • Consider factors that impact safety and efficacy for patients presenting with spine conditions and determine when to refer to specialists.
