Statement of need

Pediatricians and family physicians need to stay current with clinical advances in the care of infants, children and adolescents. The goal of this course is to provide up-to-date information in pediatric endocrinology, dermatology, otolaryngology, allergy, orthopedics and rheumatology. Autism and relevant issues in pediatric surgery will also be presented. Interactive learning formats will be utilized to engage the learners in the educational experience. The course is designed to change learner competence and performance in practice.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for pediatricians, family physicians, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and interested allied health professionals who provide care for children and adolescents

Course Objectives

  •  Evaluate and apply evidence based screening, diagnosis and/or management strategies for pediatric patients presenting with the following conditions in order to improve quality of care: 
    • Insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes mellitus
    • Atopic dermatitis
    • ENT conditions
    • Food allergies
    • Lower extremity injury or joint pain
    • Autism
  • Evaluate the research on anesthesia risks for children under 3 years of age
  • Identify which chest wall deformities require referral for surgery
