The Cardinal Health Education Collaborative (CHEC) Club is a Stanford Service club in which Stanford undergraduate and graduate volunteers teach health lessons to middle school students from populations that are medically underserved. Topics include exercise, healthy eating, sleep, mental health, and more. Middle school students learn about factors that affect their physical and mental well-being and learn achievable ways they can care for their health. The CHEC Club leadership team is responsible for recruiting volunteers, communicating with the middle school teachers, planning which health lessons will be implemented, scheduling, preparing the volunteers to be effective teachers in collaboration with faculty, helping teachers collect pre and post surveys when pilot testing lessons, ensuring volunteers show up on time and prepared, and building community within the club.

CHEC faculty sponsors support the CHEC Club and oversees curriculum, community engagement, and evaluation of the program.

Currently, CHEC is partnering with middle schools in Redwood City, CA. Teaching sessions are held throughout the day on select Fridays and volunteers can choose to teach one or more classes on those days as their schedules permit. Prior to serving as teachers, volunteers are asked to shadow experienced volunteer teachers at least once and complete an online training. 

CHEC volunteers are also invited to provide individual tutoring to support middle school students. Timing is flexible and tutoring can be done in-person or virtually.
