Christina Curtis honored for achievements in breast cancer research

Curits in her lab

Stanford Cancer Institute member Christina Curtis, PhD, MSc, is the recipient of the 2024 American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) Outstanding Investigator Award for Breast Cancer Research and the Susan G. Komen Brinker Award for Scientific Distinction in Basic Science. She is the first person to receive both awards in the same year and will be presented the awards at the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium

The awards recognize Curtis’s significant contributions to understanding the molecular determinants of breast cancer and developing multiple biomarkers that predict disease outcomes for breast cancer patients and provide information on how likely a patient will respond to a specific treatment.

Curtis says, “I’m honored to be recognized by these distinguished awards. Further, I’m excited by the research that my lab is currently conducting that builds upon our past successes in understanding the molecular map of breast cancer and how to leverage this information for more effective treatments.”

The AACR Outstanding Investigator Award for Breast Cancer Research is supported by both the AACR and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The award recognizes an investigator whose novel and significant work has had or may have a far-reaching impact on the etiology, detection, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of breast cancer.

The Susan G. Komen Brinker Awards recognize pioneering work in breast cancer research and treatment. They honor leading scientists for their significant achievements and contributions in basic and translational science and clinical practice that have advanced the fight to save lives and realize Susan G. Komen’s vision of a world without breast cancer.
