The Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) hosted its 11th Annual Conference on Breast Cancer and African Americans (BCAA) on August 27, 2022. A flagship program of SCI’s Office of Cancer Health Equity, BCAA is deeply rooted in providing high-quality, timely, and culturally tailored health information, education, and resources to help raise awareness and reduce the burden of breast cancer in Black/African American populations within our catchment area and beyond. The expert-led sessions and content were uniquely designed to address the interests and needs of community members, in addition to helping to increase their overall knowledge base related to breast cancer. A special highlight featured an intimate conversation with Ananda Lewis award-winning television host of BET’s Teen Summit, MTV’s Hot Zone, TRL, and The Ananda Lewis Show who shared her personal journey living with breast cancer as well as her commitment to raising awareness about the disease and promoting early detection, particularly among Black women. Nearly 400 attendees representing 100 local and national health care, CBO, faith-based, government, and private organizations participated in the virtual event.
