Lipika Goyal Named American Cancer Society’s Researcher of the Year

Lipika Goyal

We are pleased to welcome Lipika Goyal, MD, to the Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI). Goyal will serve as the SCI’s Director of the Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology program. Her research focuses on hepatocellular carcinoma/cholangiocarcinoma and other gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies. As a clinical trialist and translational scientist, she will lead the GI Oncology clinical research group (CRG).

We are equally pleased to announce the American Cancer Society (ACS) has honored Goyal as Researcher of the Year. This award recognizes investigators who have benefitted from an American Cancer Society extramural grant and made remarkable advances in cancer research.

Goyal has provided critical protected time to understand better why patients with a defect in a Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor (FGFR) aren’t sensitive to a drug that specifically targets this oncogenic driver. She has also collaborated on studies exploring gender representation in authorship in biliary tract cancer trials and the benefits of mudras in medicine.
