The event featured insights from leading experts, including Kimryn Rathmell, MD, PhD, Director of the National Cancer Institute. They shared valuable perspectives on the advancements in cancer biology and the development of more effective treatments, highlighting the progress made in the field.

The event paid homage to Beverly Mitchell, MD, the George E. Becker Professor of Medicine and former director of the Stanford Cancer Institute, whose visionary leadership helped shape the Institute. A key highlight of the day was a fireside chat with Dr. Mitchell, Philip Pizzo, MD, Sridhar Seshadri, DBA, Shelton Earp, MD, and Steven Artandi, MD, PhD, director of the Stanford Cancer Institute.

Artandi said, “Dr. Mitchell quickly became an essential figure when she was recruited to the Stanford Cancer Institute in 2005. She was instrumental in achieving our NCI designation, and her extraordinary efforts set the stage for our future as a top-tier cancer research hub. Additionally, her legacy of mentoring emerging leaders in oncology is ranked among her top contributions, and she has the distinct honor of recruiting two future NCI directors.”

Speakers reflected on Dr. Mitchell's role in establishing the Stanford Cancer Institute and shared personal stories of her mentorship and dedication to both research and people.

The Stanford Cancer Institute is proud to build upon her legacy with our ongoing commitment to advancing science, collaboration, and innovation. Thank you to all speakers and guests for being part of this meaningful event. Photos can be viewed here.
