We are thrilled to welcome Ryan Martinez as the inaugural Artist-in-Residence for the School of Medicine and the Humanities. A live painter, muralist, portrait and street artist, Ryan brings a passion for human connection and a deep love of music and nature to this unique role. He joins the Department of Biochemistry eager to collaborate, learn, and share his work with the community.

Ryan has already made his presence felt — a first group painting session, organized with the help of Aaron Straight, PhD, the Pfeiffer and Herold Families Professor and Biochemistry Chair, and the Biochemistry administrative team, brought colleagues together in a relaxed and creative setting. More sessions and one-on-one visits are on the horizon, and Ryan welcomes anyone who would like to share their research.

Looking ahead, Ryan's most ambitious vision is a large-scale mural for the fourth-floor lobby of Beckman — a Symphony of Science depicting members of the Stanford School of Medicine Orchestra and Biochemistry researchers as composers using their tools and instruments giving rise to swirling strands of DNA and color. It promises to be something truly special.

Stay tuned as the art comes to life.
