The Beckman Center Welcomes Sarah Bowling, Ph.D.
The Beckman Center News / Winter 2024
Sarah Bowling, Ph.D.
Sarah Bowling, Ph.D., completed her Ph.D. at Imperial College London in the labs of Tristan Rodriguez and Jesus Gil, where her project focused on understanding the mechanisms and roles of cell competition in early mouse development. For her postdoctoral research, Dr. Bowling joined the lab of Fernando Camargo at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School, where she developed new lineage-tracing mouse models that enable the simultaneous tracing of thousands of cells in vivo with unique, transcribed cellular barcodes. Using these models in the Camargo Lab, she mapped the origins of the hematopoietic system and created a blueprint of lineage decisions taken by cells during gastrulation.
Dr. Bowling will be starting her lab in the Department of Developmental Biology at Stanford in early 2024. Her laboratory will study mechanisms of plasticity and resilience in the mammalian embryo, with the aim of using this knowledge to extend our understanding of regeneration and developmental diseases.
