The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation
The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, founded in 1977, has been supporting the Beckman Center since its inception in 1989. The mission of the foundation is to "support leading edge research, in the fields of chemistry and life sciences, broadly interpreted, and particularly to foster the invention of methods, instruments, and materials that open up new avenues of research and application in these sciences and related disciplines." Dr. Arnold O. Beckman also had a particular interest in fostering and mentoring new researchers.
Consistent with the foundation's mission and Dr. Beckman's interests, the Beckman Center supports the development of new and innovative technologies in the biomedical sciences through its Technology Development Seed Grant program; the dissemination of new research tools and training in the use of new technologies through its Service Centers; and the professional development of young scientists through its Medical Scholars and Faculty Recruitment programs and numerous educational programs.
