For New Employees

Welcome to the Stanford Prevention Research Center!

To assist you with a smooth transition to your new position in the Center, please review the following information and follow the instructions noted below. You will undoubtedly have questions as you get oriented to your new job. Questions regarding your University benefits will be addressed in Stanford 101, and information regarding this orientation meeting is located in your new employee packet. You are encouraged to visit the University new employee orientation web site.

Please address additional questions to your supervisor, and as appropriate, to the members of the Administrative Services Group staff.

First Steps:

  1. It is imperative to set up your SUNet ID as soon as possible. This is the first step in setting up your email, and is necessary for required training registration. Instructions for doing this are located in your new employee packet, and at the SUNet ID home page.
  2. Please provide your SUNet ID to Elsie Wang as soon as it is set up. This is necessary for Elsie to schedule you for required training classes (see “Required Training”, below).
  3. Be sure to obtain a UNIVERSITY PARKING STICKER if you park your car at work at an on campus location (i.e., MSOB). Visit the Parking & Transportation Services web site to purchase parking stickers, and for information about parking regulations and other transportation services available to Stanford employees.

Required Reading:

New employees are required to read Stanford University policies pertinent to successful employment at the Center. You may also wish to review additional policies in the Administrative Guide, and you are encouraged to do so.

Required Training:

All new employees are required to obtain specific training within 30 days of their employment, dependent upon their job responsibilities. Elsie Wang will forward sign-up instructions via email for the following required training:.

1. Harassment Prevention Training for New Non-Supervisory Staff: Participants will learn how to recognize sexual harassment in the workplace and who to consult on campus.

2. General Safety & Emergency Preparedness: This training covers practices and procedures for preventing employee injury or illness from potential workplace hazards. Appropriate for all employees and students in administrative and other work environments.

3. Ergonomics Awareness: This training provides tips on how to prevent ergonomic problems that can arise from everyday computer use. Topics presented include: proper setup of computer workstation, body postures, healthy work habits, and office stretch exercises.

4. Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Fundamentals Certification: This certification is for workforce members who access, use, maintain, disclose or otherwise interact with PHI in a very specific, supervised manner with minimal deviation.

5. Respectful Workplace (aka “Nice Camp”): Staff Respectful Workplace Briefings cover a variety of respectful behaviors in the workplace, brief review of the Sexual Harassment policy, and resources to assist in addressing workplace concerns that may arise. All School of Medicine staff members are required to attend.

6. Health Screening, Safety, and Compliance Program (HSSC) Training: The HSSC program is mandatory for all non-faculty School of Medicine clinical research personnel involved with human subject research and data (clinical trials).
