Undergraduate Students

Stanford undergraduate students are encouraged to apply to Cardinal Free Clinics (CFC) during our regular application cycle in the Fall Quarter of each academic year. Note that there is only one general application, although there are opportunities to indicate preference for either clinic (Pacific Free Clinic on Saturdays in San Jose, Arbor on Sundays in Redwood City) during the application process. Here are the eligibility requirements:

  1. All applicants must be a current Stanford undergraduate student to be eligible to volunteer at the Cardinal Free Clinics. We unfortunately cannot accept volunteers on a short-term basis.
  2. Prospective Stanford student volunteers must complete the online application form; successful applicants will then be invited to interview.
  3. Accepted volunteers must enroll in MED 181, a required 1-2 unit training course on Thursdays from 6:00-7:20 PM in Winter Quarter.
  4. Commit to a minimum of 3 quarters of volunteer shifts over one's Stanford career. Those graduating in Spring of 2026 and not returning to campus as a student in the Fall of 2026 are not eligible to apply.
  5. Volunteers may apply for Steering Committee leadership roles after at least two quarters of service.
  6. Please do not enroll in MED 181/182/241 if you have not been accepted as a volunteer.

For more information about volunteer opportunities and upcoming info sessions, please visit us at club and service fairs and look out for our emails during Fall Quarter.
