SASI Teaching Scholars
Program Overview
The SASI Teaching Scholars program provides Stanford medical and PA students with the opportunity to serve as near-peer educators and mentors in one of the nation’s leading clinical summer institutes for premedical learners.
Teaching Scholars work closely with Stanford faculty and staff to lead clinical skills workshops, mentor undergraduate participants, and help shape immersive, simulation-based learning experiences. This program cultivates leadership, communication, and instructional skills that strengthen participants’ ability to teach effectively in clinical environments.
Program Dates
Training (Winter/Spring 2026): Weekend sessions at the Stanford School of Medicine focused on curriculum design, simulation pedagogy, and feedback training.
Teaching Commitment (Summer 2026): Select at least three of ten clinical teaching days and participate in both morning and afternoon sessions for each day selected.

- June 24 – Intro to Perioperative Monitoring and Anatomy
- June 25 – Emergency Medicine Part 1/2
- June 29 – Crisis Resource Management: Simulation into Practice
- June 30 – The Breath of Anesthesiology and Medical Ultrasound
- July 1 – Obstetric Anesthesiology and Airway Management
- July 9-10 - Suturing Bootcamp
- July 13 – Clinical Lab Day 2 (Cardiac)
- July 14–17 – Clinical Skills Labs
Participation in additional sessions is encouraged to enhance continuity and deepen teaching experience.
Role and Responsibilities
Teaching and Mentorship
Lead small-group instruction for undergraduate students during simulation and skills labs
Demonstrate and supervise core procedural and communication skills
Provide real-time feedback and debriefs that reinforce clinical reasoning and teamwork
Simulation Leadership
Coordinate with faculty and Clinical Simulation Scholars to ensure seamless session delivery
Support scenario setup, timing, and transitions between clinical stations
Model professionalism and reflective teaching practice
Curriculum and Evaluation
Contribute to refining simulation cases, teaching materials, and reflection activities
Participate in pre- and post-session briefings to improve instructional design and learner engagement
Commitment Requirements
Attend at least one training session for each module you intend to teach.
Commit to a minimum of three full teaching days (morning and afternoon sessions).
Complete required training prior to leading summer sessions.

Recognition and Honorarium
Teaching Scholars make vital contributions to Stanford’s educational mission. In recognition of this service, participants who complete their teaching commitments may be eligible to receive a one-time honorarium as a token of appreciation.
Honoraria are provided in accordance with Stanford University financial policies and processed through internal payroll systems for eligible student employees. Eligibility, documentation, and taxation requirements apply. Honoraria are not wages for employment duties and are not communicated prior to selection.
Training sessions during Winter and Spring 2026 are unpaid but required for summer participation.
