Larry Chu, MD, MSc, professor of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine
Larry Chu, MD, MSc. is Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University, where he directs the Stanford Anesthesia Summer Institute and the Stanford Anesthesia Informatics (AIM) Lab.
Dr. Larry Chu is a Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University and the Director of the Stanford Anesthesia Summer Institutes (SASI), a program designed to inspire and engage high school students with immersive, hands-on experiences in medicine and healthcare. Dr. Chu is also the founder of the START online education program and the Learnly online learning ecosystem, pioneering innovative educational tools in anesthesiology and healthcare.
With a passion for empowering the next generation of healthcare leaders, Dr. Chu brings his expertise as an NIH-funded clinical researcher and his commitment to advancing patient-centered care through groundbreaking applications of artificial intelligence and team-based healthcare solutions. His work inspires students to explore science, technology, and medicine while fostering a deeper understanding of compassion and innovation in healthcare.
Roya Saffary, MD, clinical associate professor of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine
Dr. Roya Saffary is a Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University, specializing in anesthesia and perioperative management. She serves as the Co-Director of Stanford’s Fellowship in the Management of Perioperative Services, where she combines her clinical expertise with a focus on optimizing perioperative care and operations.
Dr. Saffary completed her medical education at the University of Maryland, followed by residency and internship training at Boston Medical Center. She further honed her expertise during her fellowship at Stanford University. Board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Saffary is dedicated to advancing the field of anesthesiology through her leadership, teaching, and mentorship of future perioperative specialists.
Andrea Traynor, MD, clinical professor of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine
Andrea Traynor. is Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University, where she has collaborated extensively with the Stanford Anesthesia Summer Institute and the Stanford Anesthesia Informatics (AIM) Lab.
Dr. Andrea Traynor is a highly experienced obstetric anesthesiologist with a passion for medical education and advancing patient care in obstetrical anesthesia. A graduate of Stanford University, where she completed her anesthesiology residency and fellowship in obstetrical anesthesia, Dr. Traynor has worked in both private practice and academic medicine. Her clinical expertise and leadership have contributed to protocols addressing critical OB concerns, including non-obstetric surgery during pregnancy and enhancing family-centered cesarean delivery with practices like skin-to-skin contact in the operating room.
Dr. Traynor has collaborated with the Stanford AIM Lab to develop innovative educational tools, including the Manual of Clinical Anesthesiology and Learnly, a comprehensive online learning program for anesthesiology residents. As a former OB anesthesia fellowship director at both the University of Colorado and Stanford University, she finds joy in mentoring fellows and preparing them to excel as consultants in obstetrical anesthesia. Her research focuses on medical education and workforce development in obstetrical anesthesia, areas that resonate with her dedication to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals.
