Highlights from European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) Summer Symposium on Epithelial Barriers and Microbiome 2022: Identification of skin epithelial barrier defects using Nevisense Go
The Nevisense GO device is a small portable device that is easy to use and provides quantitative measurements of the skin barrier by using electrical impedance spectroscopy. Previous findings had already demonstrated that Nevisense GO was better at differentiating non-lesional eczema from healthy individuals than transepidermal water loss, another useful tool for monitoring eczema. In a pilot study of 13 food allergic patients with varying degrees of eczema, Dr. Sindher compared the Nevisense Go and SCORAD scores and found that they gave similar results. Furthermore, both SCORAD and Nevisense GO were equally effective at differentiating between individuals with and without eczema. These promising results suggest that Nevisense GO has potential for measuring the severity of eczema, but further research is needed to evaluate its ability to distinguish between mid and severe eczema.
