The Boussard Lab in the Division of Biomedical Informatics (BMIR), in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University, in collaboration with the Advanced Informatics for Mental Health lab of Yair Bannett, MD, MS, in the Department of Pediatrics, is seeking a highly motivated, passionate postdoctoral scholar looking to make an impact in the field of mental health, leveraging informatics to tackle real world problems.

Stanford Trainee and Student Internships
Our diverse and multidisciplinary research team welcomes Stanford trainees (residents/fellows/postdocs) and students (medical/undergraduate/graduate/doctoral) to join one of several projects, based on their interest, including investigation of primary care management of developmental delays, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, learning problems, anxiety, and depression. The ultimate goal of these studies is to improve quality of care and mitigate disparities in care for children with developmental and mental health conditions.
Examples for focused research studies that can be led by a trainee/student:
1. Investigating inappropriate use of benzodiazepines in the management of children with anxiety or depression
2. Assessing PCP adherence to guidelines in medication management of children with ADHD
3. Improving documentation of race/ethnicity data for children seen in primary care (currently 33% with missing data) - an important step towards mitigating disparities
4. Investigating sociodemographic disparities in detection of language delay
5. Developing medical education content for PCPs on management of children with ADHD
Mentorship
· The trainee/student will receive excellent mentorship from experienced mentors in health services research methodology, developmental-behavioral pediatrics research, applied clinical informatics, medical education, and quality improvement.
· The motivated trainee/student will have the opportunity to be a member of our interdisciplinary research team, working with physicians and data scientists who use novel methods to interpret real world healthcare data for research and quality of care.
· The trainee/student will have the opportunity to be an author on a peer-reviewed ppublication in a medical journal.
Qualifications
· Trainee/student at Stanford with interest in Pediatrics / Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics / Psychiatry / Quality Improvement / Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence (primarily in Natural Language Processing and Large Language Models)
· Experience with statistical/programming software (R, Python, SQL) is a benefit, but not required.
· Prior research experience is a benefit but not required.
· Candidates with excellent written and oral communication skills are preferred.
Time Commitment
· Expected time commitment of 3-4 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months.
