Head and Neck Anesthesia and Advanced Airway Management Rotation

Education Portal

Welcome to Stanford H&N Anesthesia and Advanced Airway Management rotation education portal!

We hope that during this month you will enjoy a wide variety of education resources, diversity of H&N cases, and no direct laryngoscopy.

Please familiarize yourselves with the ACGME-compliant objectives and milestones, download the Resident Portfolio and update it daily. The H&N attendings will be using the Portfolio Evaluation to help you monitor your progress, and will be providing daily feedback.

In this section, you will also find a variety of pre/posttests on individual topics. Please take time to complete the main H&N Anesthesia and Advanced Airway pretests in the beginning of your rotation; these tests will be repeated at the end. No passing score is currently required, and the tests are designed solely to improve your knowledge.

Once again, welcome to the rotation! We are looking forward to working with you and teaching you tricks of the trade.

Chapters

We are pleased to share with you the chapters on H&N anesthesia and advanced airway management written by the members of our group. Please use the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery section in the Anesthesiologist's Manual of Surgical Procedures.

Other selected chapters are generously provided for your use with the permission of the publishers.

Lectures

In this section, you will find a variety of resources, frequently supplemented by the Power Point presentations, pictures, and instructional videos. Please take the quizzes after you complete each individual study.

No passing score is currently required, and the tests are designed solely to improve your knowledge.

How-To

This is the “trade secrets” page, where we will tell you how we do it at Stanford at the point of care. You will find everything from the details of the set up, to the practical tips on the individual techniques, many of which are richly illustrated.

Most of the How-To’s are linked to the individual Lectures & Topics, where you can study the subject in depth.

Modules

These illustrated case studies are designed to improve your knowledge and comprehension of the complex clinical situations in H&N anesthesia. They will help you with in-depth evaluation of the material based on best practices.

At the end of each module, you will find the links to further resources, as well as to the tests. After completing a module you will surely have additional questions – please discuss these with your attending.

Tests

We offer you a number of quizzes on different Lectures and Topics. For the test, you will be redirected to a different page, which will require a unique log in. This log in will be provided to you at the beginning of the rotation.

Please complete the main H&N Anesthesia and Advanced Airway pretests during the first week; these tests will be repeated at the end of the rotation.

Videos

Our video portal offers you a collection of education and instruction videos created by our program and other reputable resources. The selected non-Stanford videos are either available in the public domain (e.g. YouTube), or were provided to us with permission.

Many of the presented videos are embedded in our education presentations elsewhere on this site, but this page has them all in one place.

Library

Our Library is structured similar to the Society for Head and Neck Anesthesia (SHANA) library (www.shanahq.com), and includes two main sections on airway management and H&N anesthesia. All the articles are "hand-picked".
