Make a Gift

1) Federal funding has declined.

We are fortunate to be supported by federal funding agencies, but such funding has been declining for years in real dollars. The current budget environment makes such funding even more precarious.

2) Most research students and postdoctoral fellows need your support.

One of our missions is to educate and train the next generation of scientists and physician-scientists from all over the world, yet many of them do not have grant support. Also, grants are often limited in amount and do not adequately cover our trainees’ salary and research supplies, thus additional gift funds are needed to support them.

3) Innovative research needs state-of-the-art equipment.

New technology has allowed us to study the inner ear in new ways not possible 5-10 years ago. Some of these equipment are expensive but necessary for us to make new discoveries, but cannot be bought with grant dollars.

4) We think big and plan high-risk, high-reward experiments.

Many big ideas can be expensive and take time to mature into hypotheses with preliminary data that is competitive for federal funding. This is a critical component of research that is significantly under-funded.

5) Most gifts and endowments are restricted. 

The majority of gifts to Stanford, and more than 75% of endowment funds, are directed toward particular schools, departments, or programs.This donation will solely go towards our research efforts in curing hearing loss!

6) Every gift makes a difference!

Every dollar counts and can grow into thousands and millions that support our students, postdoctoral fellows, and research program.
