The Survey Checklist (Manifesto)

In this article Ghelbach and Hunter (2018) offer a survey checklist to help researchers get more accurate responses to their questions. Survey writers can use the checklist to evaluate the quality of their surveys. The checklist covers creating questions and response options as well as organizing the survey as a whole.

Question and Questionnaire Design

In this Handbook of Survey Research, Krosnick (2009) offers evidence-based recommendations for designing questionnaires going into depth on open vs closed ended questions, designing rating scales, offering a "don’t know" option, and assessing numeric quantities and factual knowledge. Finally they provide recommendations for minimizing social desirability response bias and recall bias.
