Career Enhancement Core

The Career Enhancement Core facilitates the training and career development of a diverse cadre of interdisciplinary early-career scholars who are committed to advancing cancer health equity through research, practice, and capacity building in persistent poverty areas. The Upstream Training Program, which brings scholars together from all three institutions, focuses on building trainees’ capacity to 1) utilize complex real-world data 2) conduct community-engaged research and 3) integrate community engagement and data science approaches. The Career Enhancement Core also offers flexible educational and professional development opportunities related to the social determinants of health that are tailored to meet the needs of the cancer research and healthcare workforce: 1) a short course on the social determinants of health 2) a course on leveraging real-world data to reduce cancer inequalities 3) monthly seminary series 4) expert consultation to community and research partners 5) a weekly journal club focused on cancer equity.
