Fellowships

Upstream Research Center Fellowship Program

The Program aims to support a cohort of interdisciplinary early-career scholars committed to addressing cancer through innovative, evidence-based approaches.  Program features include:

  • Mentored research experience. Fellows will work with faculty and external collaborators aligned with their research interests. The mentoring team may include Upstream Research Center faculty, faculty working in relevant areas at other institutions, community partners, and the fellow's existing mentors. In collaboration with their mentoring team, fellows will develop an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
  • Opportunities to conduct community-engaged research. Fellows will have the opportunity to contribute to studies involving partnerships with regional organizations and institutions, supporting the Center’s goal of generating research with practical applications. Community engagement is a critical component of the Center. Fellows are expected to develop their research in areas related to the Center and they will have many opportunities to collaborate with the Center’s community partners.
  • Cross Institution networking within the Upstream Research Center and across the Persistent Poverty Initiative Network. Fellows will participate in a cross-university research cohort and will be invited to attend monthly seminar series, journal club, pilot grant program, Persistent Poverty Initiative Network annual meeting (travel costs will be covered by the Center), and the Upstream Research Center’s annual retreat.
  • Career Development Resources.  Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in an integrated set of career and professional development activities at Stanford, UC Davis, and UCSF (e.g., grant and science writing online workshops, team science training sessions, leadership development programs, and workshops on utilizing real-world data).
