Principal Investigator

Wei Wang, PhD
Senior Research Scientist

My research interest is the study of neuronal cytoskeletal protein regulation and neurodegeneration.

Michael Maloney, PhD
Research Scientist

My research is focused on the cytoskeleton with special interest in the neurodegenerative diseases. Recent work involves developing new tools for examining axonal transport using in-vitro, cellular and in-vivo approaches.

I often wake up in the morning thinking: "Hmmm, what kind of cool experiments can I do today?" These thoughts are often centered around the microtubule cytoskeleton, the most interesting and important component of cell biology. I joined Yanmin's lab in 2008 and have received excellent training and support. My research is currently focused on deciphering mechanisms of neuronal microtubule regulation through the microtubule destabilizing proteins of the stathmin family and how these might pertain to normal and pathological conditions of the nervous systems. I am using biochemical and cell biological techniques to probe these questions in mouse models of neurodegenerative disease. I am also using the nematode C. elegans as an experimental platform to test the in vivo physiological implications of molecular and cellular mechanisms of microtubule regulation.
