Using Dreamweaver to Edit Your Site

Dreamweaver Resources

Important Note

Digital Services offers limited support for websites that use Dreamweaver as the site editing tool. Support is limited to helping with access set up, configuration, assistance with proprietary development used with the templates, and general questions.

Also note, Dreamweaver training is not offered since Adobe Experience Manager is the standard web platform.

Be advised that content located within this space is static and not updated regularly.

Limited Help Available

Support for Dreamweaver is basic. Call (650-723-7192) or submit a Web Help Request for general assistance.

Online Help

Dreamweaver has built-in Help menus with Tutorials and User Guides. Use it! You can also refer to Adobe help for Dreamweaver for additional resources.

The Template

IRT periodically updates the static template to be consistent with the modern templates used in AEM.

Security

All server access is secured. A SUNet ID is required for access. Request access via the Web Help form.

Restricted Information

Do NOT use your public website to store anything containing patient information governed by HIPAA, or any personal information such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, date of birth, etc. If you need to store or manage any such information, contact IRT to request help first.

File & Directory Names

Website file names impact usability and searchability by Google and other search engines. The best file names are short, include a key word or words, and don't repeat terms in the directory name, (e.g. /fellowships/fellowship-info.html). Avoid using spaces or special characters (#,@, etc.) in file or directory names. Instead, use hyphens (-) or underscores (_) to separate words. This applies to all files.

Default File=index.html=home

"Index.html" is the default file that a browser  looks for whenever a URL ends with a slash (/) rather than “something.html.”  Therefore, the URLs http://med.stanford.edu/ and http://med.stanford.edu/index.html are equivalent.

Official URLs

The official URL of the school is “med.stanford.edu." All new school development, maintenance and printed matter should use http://med.stanford.edu/ without any “www.” The official URL of the main Stanford Hospital & Clinics site is stanfordhealthcare.org, without “www.” The official URL of the Stanford Medicine site is med.stanford.edu, without any “www.”

Policies

Really important. For detailed information, see the section Stanford Medicine Web Policies & Design Standards on the "How to Be an Author" page.

Migrate to AEM

Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) is the fully supported web platform for Stanford Medicine.

AEM makes it easy to create responsive, mobile-friendly sites with drag and drop components and built-in configurations — no need to code, no HTML required.

Join divisions, departments, centers, institutes, labs, and many others who have moved over to AEM.
