New Service
Embryo Cryopreservation
Purpose:
Cryopreservation of embryos provides an efficient method of securing, archiving, and distributing valuable genetic resources. Additionally, establishing a sufficiently large and representative embryo bank containing valuable, and vulnerable (e.g. immunodeficient) mouse strains can provide invaluable insurance against a disease outbreak by tremendously reducing the amount of time, money, and space required to restore an infected colony. This embryo bank becomes more important as the population of mutant mice with known or undefined perturbations of the immune system increases, since traditional “burn out” management methods for eliminating mouse pathogens with high-morbidity but low mortality (e.g. MHV) are likely to be unsuccessful.
Scope of service:
You need to provide us with 5-10 breeding age males (8 weeks to 6 months old) and 10-20 young females (3 to 5 weeks old). We will superoulate the female mice, set up breeding cages, harvest and cryopreserve embryos. We will also test the recovery rate of the cryopreserved embryos.
Fee:
The fee for embryo cryopreservation is $1,970 per mouse line.
