Self-Inspection Topic for Quarter 4, 2007
Safe Lab Practices
The quarterly topic
for Quarter 4, 2007 is Safe Lab Practices. For this quarter,
labs and shop in the School of Medicine will use the Lab & Shop Inspection Checklist (Q4-07)
.
Support documents for Health and Safety at Stanford and the School of Medicine, Preventing Injury and Illness in the Workplace and Laboratory Safety-Related Topics are available online.
Safe Lab Practices
- Lab Safety Basics is from the Laboratory Chemical Safety Toolkit, a companion document to the updated Chemical Hygiene Plan (Revision approved by UCH&S Feb 27, 2007). The information, distributed to Principal Investigators in September, outlines responsibilities and requirements. For this quarter, all lab personnel will review basic lab safety; other features will be covered as future self-inspection topics.

- Chemical Safety Database can be accessed from the ChemTracker website. The database includes information on the hazardous properties and Stanford Chemical Storage Groups.
- Lab Chemical Waste Guidelines Poster - Is the NEW poster prominently posted in your lab or work area? There is important information about hazardous materials and hazardous wastes that every laboratory worker is required to know. You may be asked to demonstrate your knowledge of these subjects by City, County or State inspectors.

- Contact the School of Medicine's Health and Safety Programs office or your Compliance Assistance Program (CAP) team member for additional information or updated posters.
