Regulatory agencies conduct inspections for fire safety, handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials and/or waste, medical waste management, wastewater discharge related to research activities.

Inspections are coordinated through the Health and Safety Programs office; whenever possible, department managers are notified prior to inspections for each building. During inspections, a Health and Safety staff and/or CAP team member accompany agency representative(s).
- Inspection Checklists are available as a guide to prepare for inspections; using previous inspection findings by regulatory agencies and self-inspections reports are a good starting point to prepare for inspections.
- Corrections - Deficiencies noted during the inspection are forwarded to departments for corrective action. Within 30 days, a written reponse and/or re-inspection will occur. For any uncorrected items, additional follow up is required.

our most recent hazardous materials / waste inspections.

- Responsibility - PI, Laboratory Personnel, Department and University/School, Health and Safety Programs share the responsibility for compliance.
- Resources
- Health and Safety Program - Environmental Health and Safety Specialists are available to answer specific health and safety questions for Medical School staff and researchers and provide additional information about compliance related items in the School of Medicine.
- CAP Team - Assists local departments in fulfilling regulatory compliance for hazardous materials storage, hazardous waste, biohazardous waste, radioactive use, and fire safety related issues by conducting periodic surveys in laboratories.
