Hazardous Materials

|||||||||||||||||
There are stringent federal, state and local regulations for management, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste. The term "hazardous materials" encompasses not only chemical but also radioactive and biohazardous materials.
During a hazardous materials inspection, the primary focus is on the chemical component based on Stanford's Chemical Hygiene Plan. All researchers share the responsibility for chemical safety by:
- Properly handling, storing and disposing of hazardous materials used in their experiments and
- Utilizing good management practices as part of their daily lab operations.
