General Workplace Self-Inspections
To fulfill requirements contained in the California Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), each department or division in the School of Medicine is required to self-inspect work areas, document the results, make necessary corrections, and maintain records for completing the process.
- General Safety & Emergency
Preparedness Training module
ALL faculty, staff and students are required to complete the General Safety & Emergency Preparedness course available in STARS. The module also includes information on fire safety, earthquake safety, ergonomics, and electrical safety.
- General Workplace Self-Inspections is
conducted in ALL work areas at least ONCE PER YEAR to evaluate fire
and electrical safety, office ergonomics and general safety hazards
in the workplace. A self-inspection is a walk-through of your areas
by you or someone in your department with the objective of identifying
any unsafe conditions.
- General Workplace
Inspection Checklist is completed by personnel for
their work area(s) and a copy is maintained by the department.
Each department or division in the School of Medicine is required to
self-inspect work areas using this form, document the results, make
necessary corrections, and maintain records for completing the process.

- Self-Inspection
Summary Form - Return a single Self-Inspection Summary
for YOUR DEPARTMENT (not for each lab or work area, please!) when
the process has been completed.

- Quarterly Topics are presented each quarter with a focus on a special area of health and safety. For Q1-09 special topic is, EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION FOR LABORATORIES; the Q2-09 topic is HEALTH AND SAFETY VERIFICATIONS FOR LABORATORIES. PERIODIC CHECKS, TIMELY CORRECTIONS is the special topic for Quarter 3, 2009 with special forms covering ALL work areas occupied by School of Medicine Faculty, Staff and Students.
