Laboratory Chemical Waste Guidelines

- Hazard Awareness - Chemicals wastes that are not clearly corrosive, flammable oxidizer or air/water reactive and are not listed on the Stanford Non-Hazardous Waste List should be considered toxic.
- Handling Laboratory Waste - A laboratory chemical becomes a waste when you decide that you no longer intend to use or re-use it. Additional details on accumulation time, requesting a waste pickup, labeling, storage is available on the University's Chemical Waste Program FAQ webpage.
- Spill Response - Laboratories are responsble for requesting spill cleanup or cleaning up spills. Additional information is available on the University's Chemical Waste Program FAQ webpage.
- Accident Response - Information for emergency response for accidents involving hazardous materials for all research staff is available in Preventing and Handling Emergencies on the University's website.
- Reminder: Hazardous Materials are NEVER to be disposed of in the sink!
