One day can make a world of difference.
Over 40 volunteers came together on Saturday, May 17, 2014 to take part in the School of Medicine's own special community service opportunities. We gave back along with other Stanford alumni around the globe as part of Beyond the Farm. Read below for more information about the two service projects completed by School of Medicine alumni and their guests.
FAIR OAKS CLINIC
Volunteers enjoyed camaraderie under the sun helping Fair Oaks Clinic build a community garden at their location in Redwood City. We constructed raised garden beds and weeded, mulched, and planted within the garden. Fair Oaks Clinic is a Federally Qualified Health Center(FQHC) serving the uninsured and under-insured population of San Mateo County.
MedShare collects surplus medical supplies and equipment from hospitals, distributors, and manufacturers, and then redistributes it to qualified healthcare facilities in the developing world. We traveled together to MedShare's facility in San Leandro, where we sorted and packaged medical supplies that will ultimately be sent to clinics in developing countries.
