Subpages

Description
Most of the content of your site will be in subpages, which will ideally
reflect the natural classification of content in your site. You can create
these from a subpage.html template provided in the template set. Just
like your front "main" page all your subpages will be displayed
in the main frame. Because you will strike many new pages from
this file, it's a good idea to do some prep work first:
Preparing the subpage.html file for cloning:
- Open the subpage.html file from your local copy of the template set
in your HTML editor (Dreamweaver for example)
- Change the site name portion of the browser title of the page (PageNameHere
- SiteNameHere) to reflect the name of your site. Change
the title in Dreamweaver by choosing the Title text shown in the toolbar
area of the screen, or by selecting Modify > Page Properties and
changing the Title field.
- Replace the template banner
graphic with the banner graphic for your site. You can open main.html,
select the banner graphic and copy, then return to subpage.html, select
the banner graphic and paste. Or, in Dreamweaver, Double click the template
banner graphic and navigate the select file dialog box to the image
file for your banner. Don't forget the "Alt" tag. A nice trick
is to set a link from your banner graphic to either your main.html Home
page, or to the index.html file with target="_top" This will
allow users to click quickly back to your home page any time.
- Save the subpage.html file
To create a subpage:
- Open the subpage.html file from your local copy of the template set
in your HTML editor (Dreamweaver for example) if it is not already open
- Use the command sequence File > Save As... to give the file a new
name. Avoid using spaces or special characters in your file
names. All page files must end .html or .htm to be served properly.
- Change the page name portion of the browser title of the page (PageNameHere
- SiteNameHere) to reflect the name of your new page. For example Fellowships
- Department of Departmentology. Change the title in Dreamweaver by
choosing the Title text shown in the toolbar area of the screen, or
by selecting Modify > Page Properties and changing the Title field..
- Add the content to the page. Take advantage of the CSS
style sheet integrated with SiteBuilder 2 to have a consistent look
and feel.
- Save the file and check it in your browser. If you are developing
the site on a Web server, you can put the file to the server.
- You will need to link to the new page, usually from the localnav.html
file for your site. You may also choose to add links to the subpage
from other pages in your site.
