Jiguang Wang, MD, PhD, FAHA, FESC

Professor of Medicine, Director, The Shanghai Institute of Hypertension, Ruijin Hospital

Ji-Guang Wang is professor of cardiovascular medicine at Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine. He is currently director of the Shanghai Institute of Hypertension and director of the Department of Hypertension, Ruijin Hospital.

Dr Wang studied medicine at Henan Medical University, Zhengzhou, and specialized in cardiovascular medicine at the Cardiovascular Institute and Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing. He received his doctoral degree in medical sciences (PhD) from University of Leuven, Belgium.

Dr Wang coordinated database management and statistical analysis of the Systolic Hypertension in China trial (Syst-China), the first large-scale hypertension trial involving the Chinese population. At present, he is coordinating several multicentre randomized clinical trials and population- or patient-cohort studies in China. He has published more than 270 full-length articles on hypertension in the international literature and more than 110 articles in the Chinese literature, and has lectured extensively in national and international conferences.  

Dr Wang is currently an executive council member of the International Society of Hypertension and president-elect of the Chinese Hypertension League. He serves on the editorial board of several international journals in the field of hypertension and cardiovascular disease, such as the American Journal of Hypertension, Clinical and Experimental Hypertension, Current Hypertension Reports, Hypertension (Associate Editor), Hypertension Research (Associate Editor), Journal of Hypertension, Pulse (Co-Editor), etc.
