  • The duration and severity of pain that often leads to invasive surgery to repair a torn vertebral disc may often be the result of a patient's state of mind, according to research reported April 12 by Eugene Carragee, associate professor of functional restoration, at the annual meeting of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine. The researchers found that torn vertebral discs can be found in many people, even those who have no trouble twisting, turning and bending.
