CALS SURVEY
KEY POINTS

CAL SURVEY IS COMING
APRIL 6-10

SEE DETAILS

Here are some key issues for physicians to keep in mind during the April 6-10 CALS visit:

Wear your name tag.

Seek private areas to talk to patients or their families about medical issues.

Be discreet with records and patient files. When discarding any document containing patient information, use a locked shredder box instead of regular trash.

Here are some issues practicing physicians are likely to be asked about:

The mission. Everyone should be familiar with the simple mission statement of UCSF Stanford Health Care, which is "To Care, To Educate, To Discover."

Performance improvement.
The approach we use here is Juran Methodology using the JCAHO cycle of methodology - Design, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Monitor.

Physician attestation form. Know what's on it and when you need to use it. Key uses are before blood transfusion (as specified in the Gann Act) and for documenting informed consent from patients before conscious sedation. (If you use conscious sedation, know what you're responsible for, including monitoring responsibilities.)

Medication policies. Know that you must call 723-6422 to report a suspected drug reaction or to request that a drug be added to the formulary.

(These are key examples.
Flip through the Quick Reference Guide for more information and for situations that apply to you and your practice.)
