QUALITY FAIR

- Stanford Hospital and Clinics sponsored a Feb. 14 Quality Fair, which featured storyboards describing performance improvement projects from some 40 groups throughout the organization. The theme this year was "Put Your Heart into Quality." Physicians were actively involved in many of the teams, said fair organizer Brenda Fischer, director of quality improvement. For example, projects on display included one by the Total Hip Replacement Team, which depicted how changes in timing of therapy improved outcomes in patient mobility after surgery. Stuart Goodman, chief of orthopedic surgery, played a key role on the team that completed this project. Also participating was Palo Alto Medical Foundation orthopedic surgeon John Lannin. Faculty anesthesiologist Kent Garman and hematologist James Malone were instrumental in the work of a Blood Safety/OR Team, working to enhance patient safety in the OR.
