Profits
and losses of UCSF, Stanford and Packard hospitals were no longer shared
as of March 1, a prelude to the dismantling of the UCSF Stanford Health
Care merger expected to be completed April 1.
Malinda
Mitchell, chief operating officer of Stanford Hospital and Clinics (SHC),
told the Stanford Medical Board on March 1 that the official date to
dismantle the merger was postponed one month until April because Medi-Cal
could not begin processing claims on behalf of the separate organizations
before then.
Operations
continued to run at a loss in February but a final audit will not be
completed until later this year, Mitchell said.
Mitchell also explained that UCSF Stanford Health Care would continue
to function as a corporate entity for several months, primarily to wrap
up audits, accounts receivable and payable. A small staff will remain
on duty at the organization's Candlestick Point office throughout this
period.
Mitchell
told the board that efforts to transfer employees back to the Stanford
and Packard payrolls were being completed, mostly without the need for
action by employees.
