LINDA C. GIUDICE, professor of gynecology and obstetrics, has been named to a four-year term as a member of the NIH Reproductive Biology Study Section, Center for Scientific Review. Study sections review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board and survey the status of research in their fields of science.

SAUL ROSENBERG, emeritus professor of medicine, was recently honored by the Northern California Cancer Center (NCCC) for making an Òextraordinary difference in cancer care and researchÓ and for his many contributions to the NCCC. He helped found the center, was its first chair and served on the board of trustees for 23 of its first 25 years.

ALAN SCHATZBERG, professor and chair of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, has been awarded the Gerald L. Klerman Lifetime Research Award by the National Depressive and Manic-Depressive Association. The award, which recognizes outstanding contributions furthering the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of depressive and manic-depressive illnesses, was presented in May in Washington, D.C., during the 152nd Annual Meeting of the American Psychiatric Association.

NORMAN SHUMWAY, emeritus professor of cardiothoracic surgery, received the Flance-Karl award at the American Surgical AssociationÕs annual meeting, held earlier this year in San Diego. The honor is given annually for lifetime achievement in the field of surgery.

TERRENCE F. BLASCHKE, professor of medicine (clinical pharmacology) and associate director of the General Clinical Research Center at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, received the Kaiser Award for Outstanding and Innovative Contributions to Medical Education.
RUSS B. ALTMAN, director of StanfordÕs medical Scientist Training Program, has been promoted to associate professor of medicine (general internal medicine) with tenure.

MARCO CONTI, a widely recognized authority in the field of reproductive physiology, has been promoted to professor of gynecology and obstetrics with tenure.

ROBERT MALENKA, an internationally recognized leader in the neurobiology of psychiatry, has been appointed professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, with tenure.
