Faculty Awards Presented at the 1999 Convocation Include:

Oscar Salvatierra Jr., professor of surgery and of pediatrics and director of pediatric renal transplantation, receives the Alwin C. Rambar-James B. D. Mark Award for Excellence in Patient Care during convocation ceremonies June 13 that welcomed 89 MD graduates, 17 MD/PhD grads, 71 PhDs and 19 MS graduates to the Stanford alumni ranks.

DENISE L. JOHNSON, assistant professor of surgery (surgical oncology), won the Franklin G. Ebaugh Jr. Award for Advising Medical Students.

PETER S. EDELSTEIN, assistant professor of surgery, won the Kaiser Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching.

LAURENCE C. BAKER, assistant professor of health policy and research; BEN A. BARRES, associate professor of neurobiology; LAWRENCE H. MATHERS, associate professor of pediatrics; and RICHARD W. TSIEN, professor of molecular and cellular physiology, received the Kaiser Award for Excellence in Preclinical Teaching.

J. EDWIN ATWOOD, associate professor of medicine (cardiovascular) and director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System; MARTHA R. DORN, assistant professor of medicine (general internal medicine) and chief of emergency services at the VA hospital; and SHERRY M. WREN, assistant professor of surgery (general surgery) and chief of surgery at the VA, have won the Arthur L. Bloomfield Award for Excellence in Teaching Clinical Medicine.
