New Blood Draw Protocol Cancelled
A request that all blood samples be submitted for Transfusion Service testing in 10 ml EDTA tubes has been rescinded. All personnel, including physicians, are being asked to revert to the previous standard - two 5 ml EDTA tubes, announced Hollie Parker, assistant administrative director of the clinical labs.

"Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that the automated equipment recently agreed upon for use at the North and South campus labs cannot accommodate 10 ml tubes," said Parker in a June 9 memo. "Therefore, please disregard our former request for 10 ml tubes and return to collecting Transfusion Service blood samples [for ABO/Rh, antibody screening / ID / crossmatch, direct coombs, etc.] in 5 ml EDTA tubes."

For questions or further information, contact Lin Chickering, chief technologist, or a Transfusion Service supervisor, at (650) 723-7346.
