A multidisciplinary specialty service for patients with clotting and bleeding disorders has been
launched under the leadership of Lawrence L. Leung, chief of the Division of Hematology. A letter was to be sent to referring physicians in late July announcing the Thrombosis and Bleeding Disorder (T/BD) Service. "We are providing both outpatient clinic and inpatient services with a strong commitment to ongoing communications to keep referring physicians well-informed of their patients' progress," said Leung. Our goal is to smoothly transition patients back to their referring physicians' care, as soon as medically appropriate," he said. "We are available to provide all levels of service, from a brief telephone consultation to comprehensive patient management." A key feature of the inpatient program is a round-the-clock, seven-day-a-week comprehensive consultation service for hospitalized patients, Leung said. Other hospital services include assistance with treatment planning for patients who may require thrombosis prophylaxis prior to surgery, perioperative management of bleeding and thrombotic disorders, and access to investigational drugs. The T/BD service offers: Multidisciplinary assessment. Full range of on-site testing, including ultrasound and molecular diagnostic testing for inherited thrombosis risk factors. Interventional radiology for stent placement and thrombolytic therapy with Stanford interventional radiologists Michael Dake, Stephen Kee, Mahmood Razavi, Charles Semba and Daniel Sze. Vascular surgical services with Stanford specialists Ronald Dalman, E. John Harris Jr., Cornelius Olcott, and Christopher Zarins. Coordination with the Oral Anticoagulation Clinic for long-term therapy. For inpatient or outpatient consultations or referrals, call the Thrombosis/Bleeding Disorder attending physician on pager (415) 607-3011, or pager ID 3551 from inside the hospital. To schedule an outpatient visit for your patient, call the clinic at (415) 498-5279. T/BD service physicians include (in addition to Leung), Steven Coutre, Stanley Schrier and pathologist James Zehnder, who directs the clinical lab for the service. For questions about the service, page Leung at (415) 723-6661, pager ID 3433. |
