Winning nurses find uses for stipends
The two staff nurses who won stipends contributed by the medical staff during Nurse Week in May have decided how they'll use their $250 prizes, the Nurse Week Committee has announced.
Ann Smyth, a 10-year Stanford veteran and currently a staff nurse on H-2 (psychiatry) plans to use the money to further her education in a clinical nurse practitioner program at UCSF. Kathy Nelson, who works on E-2 (medical/surgical trauma ICU), plans to use her stipend to attend an ICU class next year. Nelson has been at Stanford for more than five years.
For the past several years, the medical staff, though its leadership, has provided funds from staff dues to enable stipend winners, this year determined by a random drawing, to attend a conference or other educational event.
